iPhone 13 Housing Replacement

A full housing replacement is the ultimate repair for an iPhone 13 suffering from a severely bent aluminum frame, a completely shattered back glass, or structural damage that compromises its dust and water resistance. Unlike simple part swaps, this procedure requires a total teardown, meaning you must transfer every single internal component into a brand-new chassis. Expect a highly detailed, multi-hour process that demands absolute precision, steady hands, and meticulous screw organization.

   Discharge and Remove Pentalobe Screws

   • Before beginning, ensure the iPhone 13 battery is discharged below 25% to minimize the risk of a thermal event if the battery is accidentally punctured.
   • Power off the device completely, then use a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

   Heat and Lift the Display

   • Apply localized heat to the front edges of the phone using a heat gun on a low setting for 1 to 2 minutes to soften the waterproof display adhesive.
   • Place a suction cup on the lower half of the screen, pull up with firm, steady pressure to create a slight gap, and insert a plastic opening pick to gently slice through the adhesive around the perimeter.

   Open the Screen and Disconnect the Battery

   • Carefully swing the display open from the right side, hinging it on the left edge like a book—do not separate it completely yet, as fragile flex cables are still connected.
   • Use a Y000 screwdriver to remove the metal shield covering the connectors, then immediately use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery first to prevent any electrical short circuits before disconnecting the display cables.

   • Unscrew the brackets securing the power button, volume buttons, and the upper sensor/microphone assembly.

   Transfer the MagSafe and Wireless Charging Coil

   • If your replacement housing is "bare" (lacks pre-installed parts), you must transfer the MagSafe magnet ring and wireless charging coil.
   • Apply heat to the back of the old housing to loosen the strong adhesive, then slide a thin plastic card underneath the coil to separate it from the frame, taking extreme care not to crease or puncture the delicate copper coil.

   Begin Reassembly in the New Housing

   • Lay out your new housing and begin transferring the components in reverse order, starting with the side button flex cables, upper sensors, and the wireless charging coil.
   • Carefully seat the logic board back into its designated position, secure it with its original standoff screws, and reconnect all the delicate flex cables, ensuring they click firmly into place.

    Reinstall Lower Modules, Battery, and Display

    • Reinstall the Lightning port assembly, Taptic Engine, loudspeaker, and rear camera module.
    • Apply new adhesive pull-tabs to the battery, press it into place, and apply a fresh display adhesive gasket to the perimeter of the new frame.
    • Connect the display cables, plug in the battery last, screw down the metal shielding brackets, swing the screen closed, and secure it with the bottom pentalobe screws.
