iPhone 14 Battery Replacement

If your iPhone 14 is struggling to hold a charge, shutting down unexpectedly, or displaying a "Service" message under Battery Health, it is time for a replacement. Unlike its predecessors, the base iPhone 14 features a redesigned internal structure that opens from the back glass, making battery access significantly more straightforward. However, this repair still requires patience, a steady hand, and careful handling of delicate flex cables to avoid permanent damage.

   Safety Preparation

   • Discharge your iPhone 14 battery below 25% to minimize the risk of a thermal event or fire if the battery is accidentally punctured during the repair.
   • Power off the device completely and unplug any cables before starting.

   Remove the Pentalobe Screws

   • Locate the two 6.75 mm pentalobe screws on the bottom edge of the phone, on either side of the charging port.
   • Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove both screws and store them safely.

   Heat the Back Glass

   • Use a heat gun or hair dryer to apply gentle heat to the bottom and side edges of the back glass for about 1 to 2 minutes.
   • This softens the strong adhesive securing the rear panel to the frame.

   Create an Opening Gap

   • Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass and pull upward with firm, steady pressure to create a small gap.
   • Gently insert a plastic opening pick into this gap, taking care not to insert it more than 3 mm to avoid tearing internal cables.

   Slice the Perimeter Adhesive

   • Slowly slide the opening pick around the bottom and sides of the phone to slice through the adhesive.
   • Be extremely cautious along the right edge, as inserting the pick too deep can slice the wireless charging coil or button flex cables.

   Open the Rear Panel

   • Gently swing the back glass open to the right side, like opening a book.
   • Do not pull the glass completely away yet, as it is still connected to the logic board by the wireless charging coil cable.

   Disconnect the Battery

   • Use a Y000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal battery connector bracket.
   • Lift the bracket away with tweezers, then use a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket to cut off all power.

   Disconnect the Wireless Charging Coil

   • Remove the Y000 screw securing the metal cover over the wireless charging coil connector.
   • Use your plastic spudger to disconnect the wireless charging cable, allowing you to completely separate and set aside the back glass assembly.

   Pull the Adhesive Tabs

   • Locate the black stretch-release adhesive pull-tabs at the top edge of the battery.
   • Peel them back slightly with tweezers, then pull them outward horizontally at a very low angle, keeping them flat and close to the phone to prevent them from snapping.

    Remove the Old Battery

    • If the adhesive strips snapped, apply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (90%+) around the edges of the battery and let it sit for a minute to dissolve the glue.
    • Use a plastic card or the flat end of a spudger to gently pry the battery out of its well, ensuring you never use metal tools or puncture the battery.

    Install the New Battery

    • Clean any remaining adhesive residue from the battery well using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
    • Apply new battery adhesive strips to the back of your replacement battery, align it carefully, and press it firmly into the well.

    Reassemble and Seal

    • Clean the old adhesive from the frame edges and apply a new precut back glass adhesive gasket.
    • Reconnect the wireless charging coil, plug in the battery connector, reinstall both metal brackets with their Y000 screws, swing the back glass closed, and press firmly around the edges to seal the phone.
