iPhone 14 Rear Camera Replacement

If your iPhone 14 is capturing blurry photos, failing to focus, showing a black screen when you open the camera app, or making an unusual buzzing noise due to a broken optical image stabilization (OIS) motor, it is time to replace the rear camera module. Unlike its predecessors, the base iPhone 14 features a redesigned internal chassis that opens from the back glass, making rear camera access much more straightforward. This step-by-step guide will walk you through safely opening the device, disconnecting the battery, and swapping out the dual-camera assembly.

   Power Down and Prep

   • Turn off your iPhone 14 completely by holding the power and volume up buttons, then sliding the power-off slider.
   • For safety, discharge the battery below 25% before starting to reduce the risk of a thermal event if the battery is accidentally punctured during the repair.

   Remove Bottom Screws

   • Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning/charging port.
   • Set these screws aside in a magnetic tray or organized workspace so they do not get lost.

   Soften the Rear Adhesive

   • Apply heat to the back glass of the iPhone 14 using a heat gun or hair dryer on a medium setting for 2 to 3 minutes, focusing on the outer edges.
   • This softens the strong waterproof adhesive securing the rear glass panel to the aluminum frame.

   • Place a suction cup on the lower portion of the rear glass, just above the charging port.
   • Pull upward firmly on the suction cup while holding the frame down to create a tiny gap between the glass and the frame.

   • Gently slide the pick along the bottom, left, top, and right edges of the phone to slice through the adhesive, taking care not to insert the pick more than 3–4 mm to avoid damaging internal cables.

   • Carefully swing the rear glass open from the right side to the left, like opening a book.
   • Do not try to fully separate the back glass yet, as it is still connected to the motherboard by fragile flex cables for the wireless charging coil and sensors.

   • Locate the metal shield covering the battery connector.
   • Use a Y000 Tri-point screwdriver to remove the screws securing the bracket, lift the bracket away with tweezers, and immediately use a plastic spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery connector to cut off power to the board.

   • Remove the screws securing the wireless charging coil connector bracket.
   • Lift the bracket, then use your plastic spudger to disconnect the wireless charging coil flex cable, allowing you to fully set the rear glass panel aside.

   Remove the Camera Bracket

   • Locate the metal bracket covering the dual rear camera module in the upper corner.
   • Use a Y000 or Phillips screwdriver to remove the securing screws, then lift the bracket out with tweezers.

    Disconnect and Remove the Camera Module

    • Use a plastic spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the two camera press-fit connectors from the motherboard.
    • Carefully pry the dual-camera module out of its housing recess and remove it from the phone.

    Install the New Camera

    • Place the new iPhone 14 rear camera module into the empty recess, ensuring it sits flush.
    • Gently press down on the two press-fit connectors until they click securely into place on the motherboard.

    Reassemble and Re-seal

    • Reinstall the camera metal bracket and its screws.
    • Clean off the old adhesive from the frame and rear glass using isopropyl alcohol, apply new pre-cut adhesive, reconnect the wireless charging coil and battery, screw their brackets back on, and carefully press the rear glass back into place.
