Repair Guides

Moderate1–2 h10 steps

If your iPhone 15 Pro has a cracked outer glass, unresponsive touch controls, or visual artifacts like vertical lines and black spots, a screen replacement is necessary. This repair requires patience and a steady hand, as you will be working with delicate internal flex cables and transferring sensitive sensors. By following this guide, you can successfully restore your device's Super Retina XDR display while preserving its advanced features.

  1. 1

Power Down and Prepare the Device

    • Discharge your iPhone's battery below 25% to minimize the risk of a thermal event if the battery is accidentally punctured during the repair.
    • Power off the phone completely and clear a clean, flat workspace.
  2. 2

    Remove the Bottom Pentalobe Screws

    • Use a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.
    • Store these screws in a magnetic tray or organizer to ensure they do not get lost.
  3. 3

    Heat the Screen Edges

    • Apply a heated iOpener or a heat gun set to a low temperature (around 80°C / 176°F) to the perimeter of the screen for 2 to 3 minutes.
    • This softens the strong waterproof adhesive securing the display to the titanium frame.
  4. 4

    Separate the Screen Adhesive

    • Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display and pull upward with firm, steady pressure to create a tiny gap.
    • Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the gap and slide it carefully around the bottom, right, and top edges to slice through the adhesive.
    • Warning: Do not insert the pick more than 2–3 mm on the left side to avoid tearing the internal display cables.
  5. 5

Open the Screen Like a Book

    • Gently swing the right edge of the screen up and over toward the left, using the left edge of the phone as a hinge.
    • Prop the screen up at a 90-degree angle against a sturdy object so you do not strain or tear the delicate flex cables still connected to the motherboard.
  6. 6

    Remove the Connector Bracket

    • Use a Y000 tri-point screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal bracket over the motherboard connectors.
    • Use tweezers to lift the bracket out of the phone and set it aside.
  7. 7

    Disconnect the Battery (Safety First!)

    • Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the battery press connector from the logic board.
    • Disconnecting the battery immediately cuts power to the device, preventing short circuits or component damage during the rest of the repair.
  8. 8

Disconnect the Display and Sensor Cables

    • Use your plastic spudger to disconnect the display flex cable and the ambient light sensor cable.
    • Once these connectors are safely unplugged, you can completely separate the old screen assembly from the iPhone's housing.
  9. 9

Transfer the Ambient Light Sensor Flex

    • Carefully unscrew the ambient light sensor assembly from the back of the old display.
    • Apply a tiny drop of isopropyl alcohol to soften any underlying adhesive, then use tweezers to gently lift the sensor and its fragile flex cable.
    • Transfer and secure this assembly into the exact same position on your new replacement screen.
  10. 10

Apply New Adhesive, Reconnect, and Seal

    • Clean any remaining adhesive residue off the titanium frame with isopropyl alcohol, then apply a new pre-cut waterproof adhesive gasket.
    • Reconnect the sensor and display cables, plug the battery back in, and screw the metal bracket back down.
    • Align the top edge of the screen with the frame, gently press down along the edges until it snaps flush, and reinstall the two bottom pentalobe screws.

FAQ

Will Face ID still work after I replace my screen?

Yes, Face ID will continue to function normally as long as you successfully transfer the original ambient light sensor assembly from your old screen to the new one without damaging it. The sensor is factory-paired to your specific iPhone. If this flex cable is torn or damaged, Face ID will be disabled and can only be restored by Apple or an authorized technician.

Why does my iPhone show an "Unknown Part" message after the repair?

Apple uses cryptographic pairing to link the screen's microchip (Display IC) to the motherboard. Even if you install a genuine Apple screen, iOS will display an "Important Display Message" or "Unknown Part" warning unless the screen is calibrated using Apple's official Self Service Repair diagnostics. The message does not affect the phone's performance and will eventually disappear from your lock screen.

Is my iPhone 15 Pro still waterproof after a screen replacement?

Opening the device breaks the factory liquid-damage seal. While applying a new pre-cut adhesive gasket during reassembly restores dust protection and basic splash resistance, the phone should no longer be considered fully water-resistant or submerged.

How do I keep True Tone functionality?

True Tone is disabled by default after a screen replacement. To restore it, you must either run Apple's official system configuration software (available through their Self Service Repair program) or use a screen programmer to copy the True Tone data from the original screen to a compatible aftermarket screen.
