iPhone 17 Pro Rear Camera Replacement

This repair is necessary if your iPhone 17 Pro rear camera experiences black preview screens, broken sensor-shift stabilization causing blurry or vibrating images, or physical hardware failure after an impact. Replacing the camera assembly involves opening the device from the back glass, disconnecting internal power, and extracting the modular triple-lens unit from the chassis. Completing this repair properly will restore full photo and video capability, after which you can calibrate the new hardware using on-device system tools.

   Power Down and Prepare

   • Power off the iPhone 17 Pro completely and discharge the battery below 25 percent to prevent potential fire hazards if the battery is accidentally punctured.
   • Remove the two P2 Pentalobe screws located at the bottom edge on either side of the USB-C charging port.

   Heat the Rear Glass

   • Place the phone face down and heat the perimeter of the back glass with a heating pad set to 75°C for 3 to 5 minutes, or use a heat gun moving evenly around the edges.
   • Do not keep direct heat in one spot for too long to prevent damaging internal electronics.

   Slice Perimeter Adhesive

   • Mount a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass and pull upward gently to create a thin seam.
   • Insert a plastic opening pick no deeper than 3 millimeters, gliding it along the lower and side perimeters to slice through the adhesive seal.

   Open the Rear Housing

   • Carefully pivot the back glass open toward the right side like a book cover.
   • Rest the panel against a solid support block so the internal flex cables connecting the rear panel are not placed under tension.

   Disconnect the Battery

   • Remove the tri-point screws holding down the lower logic board connector shield using a Y000 screwdriver.
   • Lift off the bracket with tweezers and use a plastic spudger to pry the battery terminal connector straight up, isolating the device from power.

   Detach the Back Panel Flex

   • Unscrew the upper logic board bracket and remove it to access the rear glass sensor connectors.
   • Disconnect the rear glass cable, then safely lift and set the back glass panel aside to clear your workspace.

   Remove the Camera Module Bracket

   • Use a Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the metal retaining bracket over the rear camera assembly.
   • Carefully remove the shield using precision tweezers.

   Disconnect and Extract the Camera

   • Use a plastic spudger to pop each of the rear camera flex connectors off the logic board.
   • Gently lift the unified triple-lens camera module out of the chassis pocket.

   Clean Lens Cavities and Install Replacement

   • Inspect the inside of the rear lens glass for dust, cleaning the surface with a lint-free swab slightly dampened with 99 percent isopropyl alcohol.
   • Align the new iPhone 17 Pro camera module into the frame cavity and press it gently into place.

    Reconnect Cables and Reinstall Shields

    • Connect the camera flex cables back onto the logic board by pressing down evenly until they snap into position.
    • Reinstall the camera bracket and the rear panel flex connector, securing all retaining screws.

    Test Hardware and Reseal

    • Reconnect the battery, temporarily boot the device, and verify autofocus, stabilization, and all zoom levels in the Camera app.
    • Power down, strip old adhesive residue from the frame edges, apply a new waterproof gasket, close the rear glass, and tighten the bottom P2 screws.

    Run System Calibration

    • Turn on the phone and open Settings, then tap General, About, and Parts & Service History.
    • Launch Repair Assistant and follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the new rear camera and finalize the installation.
