iPhone 17 Screen Replacement
A cracked, flickering, or unresponsive display can make your iPhone 17 impossible to use. Replacing the OLED screen will restore your device to perfect working order and fix touch issues or dead pixels. This repair requires patience and a steady hand, especially when dealing with the delicate sensor flex cables. Take your time with the adhesive removal to ensure a clean and safe installation.
Required Tools
- P2 Pentalobe screwdriver
- Y000 Tri-point screwdriver
- Phillips #000 screwdriver
- Heating pad or heat gun
- Suction cup or display removal tool
- Plastic opening picks
- Spudger
- Tweezers
- Replacement iPhone 17 screen
- New display adhesive seal
- Isopropyl alcohol (high concentration)
Step by step
- 1
Step 1: Remove the bottom screws
Power off your iPhone completely.
Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two screws located next to the charging port.
Keep these screws safely organized on a magnetic mat.
- 2
Step 2: Heat the display edges
Apply heat to the edges of the iPhone screen using a heating pad or heat gun.
Warm the perimeter for about three to five minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive holding the display in place.
Do not overheat the device.
- 3
Step 3: Create a gap and slice the adhesive
Apply a suction cup to the bottom edge of the screen and pull up gently to create a slight gap.
Insert a plastic opening pick into the gap and carefully slide it around the perimeter to cut the adhesive.
Avoid inserting the pick too deeply on the side where the display cables are located to prevent damage.
- 4
Step 4: Open the device
Once the adhesive is cut, open the display from the side like a book.
Prop it against a sturdy object so it does not pull on the internal flex cables.
- 5
Step 5: Disconnect the battery
Use the appropriate screwdriver (typically a Y000 or Phillips #000) to remove the metal cover securing the battery connector.
Use a plastic spudger to gently pry up the battery connector from the logic board.
Disconnecting the battery first is a critical safety step to prevent short circuits.
- 6
Step 6: Disconnect the display cables
Remove the screws securing the display and sensor connector brackets.
Carefully pry up the display flex cable and the front sensor flex cable using your plastic spudger.
You can now completely remove the old screen from the phone frame.
- 7
Step 7: Transfer the sensor assembly
If your new screen does not come with a pre-installed proximity and ambient light sensor, you must transfer it from the old display.
Remove the screws holding the sensor assembly, apply a little heat to soften the adhesive, and carefully pry it off.
Install this sensor assembly onto your new replacement screen.

Step 8: Apply new waterproof adhesive
Clean the edges of the iPhone frame using high concentration isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove all old adhesive residue.
Peel the backing off your new display adhesive seal and align it carefully around the inner frame of the phone.
- 9
Step 9: Connect the new screen and battery
Bring the new screen close to the frame and reconnect the display and sensor flex cables to the logic board.
Reinstall their protective metal brackets.
Finally, reconnect the battery cable and secure its metal cover.
- 10
Step 10: Seal the iPhone
Fold the display down into the frame and press firmly around the edges to secure the adhesive.
Reinstall the two P2 Pentalobe screws at the bottom of the device.
Turn on the phone and navigate to Settings, General, About, and Parts and Service History to run the Repair Assistant and calibrate the new display.

Frequently asked questions
If you use a genuine Apple replacement part, you can calibrate it using the Repair Assistant in your settings to restore True Tone. If you use an aftermarket screen without proper calibration, True Tone and ambient light sensing functions might be disabled.
Opening the device breaks the factory waterproof seal. Applying a new adhesive frame seal will restore some water protection, but you should avoid submerging the phone in water.
Apple links the serial number of the original screen to the logic board. You will see this warning if you use an aftermarket part or if you have not run the Repair Assistant tool for a genuine replacement.
