iPhone 18 Pro Screen Replacement

Moderate45–60 min12 steps

A cracked front glass, distorted colors, unresponsive touch areas, or a completely black OLED panel indicate that your screen needs to be replaced. On the iPhone 18 Pro, screen removal requires softening strong factory adhesive around the bezel, safely disconnecting internal ribbon cables, and transferring delicate upper sensors. With patience, the correct tools, and strict anti-static precautions, you can complete this repair and restore full display functionality.

Required Tools

  • P2 Pentalobe screwdriver
  • Tri-point Y000 screwdriver
  • Heat gun or heated pad
  • Suction cup handle
  • Thin plastic opening picks
  • Nylon spudger
  • Precision tweezers
  • Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and lint-free wipes
  • Replacement iPhone 18 Pro screen assembly
  • Pre-cut perimeter water-resistant adhesive

Step by step

  1. 1

Step 1: Prepare and secure the device

Discharge the battery below 25% to minimize thermal risks if the battery is accidentally punctured.

Turn off the device completely, and if the glass is heavily cracked, apply overlapping strips of clear packing tape across the entire face to keep loose shards together and allow a suction cup to grip.

  2. 2

Step 2: Remove the lower chassis screws

Locate the two P2 Pentalobe screws flanking the USB-C port on the bottom edge.

Use your P2 driver to remove both screws, placing them in an organizer tray so they are not misplaced.

  3. 3

Step 3: Soften the perimeter adhesive

Set a heating pad to 70°C to 75°C and rest the phone face down for 3 to 4 minutes, or gently sweep a heat gun across the outer front perimeter.

Proper heating relaxes the tough waterproof bonding strip without damaging internal electronics.

  4. 4

Step 4: Separate the display edge

Attach a suction cup near the bottom edge above the charging port and apply gentle, steady upward pressure to create a small hairline gap.

Insert an ultra-thin plastic opening pick no deeper than 2 mm into the seam to begin cutting through the adhesive.

  5. 5

Step 5: Slice the remaining perimeter adhesive

Work the plastic pick carefully up the sides of the phone, taking extreme care not to insert the tool too deep into the chassis.

The iPhone 18 Pro has a fragile plastic display frame and delicate internal flex cables along the left side that can be damaged by careless prying.

  6. 6

Step 6: Open the display like a book

Gently swing the display open from the right edge toward the left edge.

Prop the screen up at roughly a 90-degree angle using a small box or dedicated display holder so the connected ribbon cables are not strained.

  7. 7

    Step 7: Disconnect the battery

Unscrew the tri-point Y000 screws holding the lower metal shield over the logic board connectors and remove the bracket.

Using a nylon spudger, pry up the battery terminal connector to cut all power to the board before touching any other internal cables.

  8. 8

Step 8: Disconnect the display and remove the panel

Use the flat end of your spudger to gently pop off the display and touch digitizer press connectors.

Once all connections to the main chassis are detached, lift the old screen assembly away and place it on a clean work surface.

  9. 9

Step 9: Transfer the top sensor flex (if necessary)

If your replacement screen does not come with the front sensor assembly pre-installed, apply light heat to the top edge of the old screen.

Carefully pry up the ambient light sensor and microphone flex with non-conductive tweezers and press it into position on the new panel.

  10. 10

Step 10: Clean the chassis and apply fresh adhesive

Clean any remaining factory glue from the perimeter of the frame using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Once completely dry, align and lay down the new pre-cut perimeter adhesive gasket onto the frame, pressing it smoothly into place.

  11. 11

Step 11: Connect, test, and reassemble

Attach the replacement screen connectors to the logic board, reconnect the battery terminal, and power on the phone to test touch response and picture output.

After verifying that the panel functions properly, power the phone off, reinstall the metal shield and screws, fold the display flat into the frame, press the edges firmly to seal, and reinstall the bottom P2 screws.

  12. 12

    Step 12: Complete software calibration

Turn on the iPhone, connect to a stable Wi-Fi network, and go to Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History.

Follow the prompts in Apple's Repair Assistant to calibrate the new screen for True Tone and correct ambient brightness functionality.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, Face ID will continue to operate normally as long as the chassis-mounted sensors and the front sensor flex cable remain undamaged during disassembly. Take extra care when prying near the top Dynamic Island area to avoid nicking any delicate optical components.

True Tone functionality requires calibration through iOS. After physically installing the screen, navigate to Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History to run the system Repair Assistant, which pairs the new panel and restores True Tone.

No, once the original seal is cut during opening, it loses its structural integrity and water resistance. Always scrape away the old adhesive residue and apply a brand-new pre-cut gasket during reassembly.

Disconnect the battery, unseat the display ribbon cables, and check the connector pins for dust, lint, or misalignment. Reconnect the display firmly, reattach the battery, and attempt to power the device on again.
