Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 Charging Port Replacement

Moderate45–60 min11 steps

This repair guide details the step-by-step replacement of a faulty USB-C daughterboard on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8. You should perform this procedure if your phone fails to charge, intermittently drops fast-charging connections, cannot transfer data over USB, or displays persistent moisture warnings despite being dry. Because accessing the charging assembly requires lifting the bottom rear glass panel, prepare to clean off factory seals and install fresh adhesive to protect the internal hardware.

Required Tools

  • Heat gun or temperature-controlled heating pad
  • Heavy-duty suction cup
  • Thin plastic opening picks
  • Phillips #00 precision screwdriver
  • Anti-static plastic spudger
  • ESD-safe curved tweezers
  • Isopropyl alcohol (90% concentration or higher)
  • Pre-cut replacement rear glass adhesive tape

Step by step

  1. 1

Step 1: Power Down and Discharge

Turn off the phone completely, disconnect any tethered accessories, and discharge the battery below 25 percent before starting.

This significantly reduces the risk of thermal runaway or fire if an internal cell is accidentally stressed during disassembly.

  2. 2

Step 2: Soften Lower Back Glass Adhesive

Set your heating pad to 75 degrees Celsius and rest the lower half of the folded phone on it for 4 to 5 minutes, or sweep a heat gun evenly around the bottom back glass perimeter.

Never exceed 80 degrees Celsius to prevent heat damage to internal components and the adjacent hinge mechanisms.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Slice Perimeter Adhesive

Affix a suction cup near the bottom edge of the lower back cover and pull upward firmly to create an opening slit.

Slip a plastic opening pick into the gap and gently slice around all four edges of the lower panel to sever the waterproof tape.

  4. 4

Step 4: Remove Lower Glass Panel

Lift the lower rear glass panel cleanly away from the frame and place it in a dust-free storage area.

Use tweezers and isopropyl alcohol to clear away remaining adhesive remnants along the aluminum housing.

  5. 5

    Step 5: Disconnect the Battery

Locate the lower battery bracket and remove the Phillips screws anchoring it in place.

Lift off the shield and use the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery flex cable straight up from the motherboard, cutting all electrical power to the circuitry.

  6. 6

Step 6: Remove the Loudspeaker Assembly

Back out the Phillips screws securing the bottom loudspeaker enclosure over the sub-board.

Carefully tilt and lift the speaker assembly away from its frame alignment pins to expose the charging port board beneath.

  7. 7

Step 7: Uncouple Interconnect and RF Cables

Use your spudger to release the press-fit connector of the main display and logic board interconnect flex cable.

Using fine ESD tweezers, gently pop the miniature coaxial RF antenna cables off their gold-plated board sockets by lifting straight upward from the connector base.

  8. 8

Step 8: Extract the Faulty Sub-Board

Remove the retaining screws holding the USB-C charging board firmly against the bottom frame rim.

Gently pry the board up with a plastic tool, taking care not to rip or misplace the rubber acoustic gasket seated around the primary microphone.

  9. 9

Step 9: Seat the New Charging Port Board

Transfer the microphone gasket to the replacement board if needed, then set the new sub-board into the lower chassis pocket.

Align the USB-C connector flush with the bottom frame cutout and tighten down the board mounting screws securely without overtightening.

  10. 10

Step 10: Reconnect Cables and Perform Test

Press the antenna coaxial cables back into place until they snap securely, then reconnect the main flex cable and lower battery connector.

Temporarily plug in a verified USB-C cable to confirm the device detects charging and displays normal voltage drawing before re-gluing the chassis.

  11. 11

Step 11: Reassemble Speaker and Reseal

Disconnect the charger, reinstall the loudspeaker baffle, and secure all Phillips screws evenly.

Apply a fresh pre-cut perimeter adhesive gasket to the chassis rim, press the back glass firmly into place, and clamp lightly for 15 minutes to secure the bond.

Frequently asked questions

While micro-soldering a loose port is technically possible for advanced technicians, replacing the complete daughterboard is the industry standard approach because it saves time, guarantees factory pin alignment, and replaces the surrounding microphone and filter circuitry simultaneously.

No, the charging port assembly is housed exclusively in the lower half of the frame underneath the bottom glass panel. As long as you avoid inserting pry tools into the hinge cavity, the delicate folding AMOLED screen remains untouched.

Opening the factory seal compromises the original water-resistant rating. You can regain everyday splash and dust resistance by completely scraping away old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and applying an OEM pre-cut adhesive gasket under firm, even clamping pressure.

A lingering warning typically points to residue or bent pins inside the main interconnect ribbon cable socket. Inspect the socket under magnification, clean the flex ends with 90 percent isopropyl alcohol, and reboot the phone to reset any cached Android sensor states.
