Repair Guides

Difficult1–2 h10 steps

When your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 stops recognizing charging cables or only charges at specific angles, the USB-C port is likely damaged. Moisture warnings that refuse to go away or a completely dead connection are also common symptoms indicating a replacement is necessary. This guide will walk you through replacing the lower sub-board assembly containing the charging port, restoring your device to full functionality. Expect to deal with strong adhesive and delicate ribbon cables, so patience is essential.

Required Tools

Heat gun or heating padSuction cupPlastic opening picksSpudger (nylon or plastic)Precision Phillips screwdriver setIsopropyl alcohol (high concentration)Anti-static tweezersReplacement charging port sub-board assemblyPre-cut replacement adhesive for the back cover
  1. 1

    Heat the Back Cover

    • Power off your Galaxy Z Fold7 completely before beginning any repair.
    • Apply heat evenly to the edges of the rear glass panel using a heat gun or heating pad to soften the underlying adhesive.
    • Keep the heat moving constantly to prevent localized damage to the internal batteries or the glass itself.
  2. 2

    Create an Opening Seam

    • Apply a suction cup to the lower edge of the heated back cover and pull up gently to create a tiny gap.
    • Insert a plastic opening pick into this gap to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
    • Never use metal tools for this step because they can easily shatter the glass or scratch the frame.
  3. 3

    Slice the Adhesive

    • Slide the plastic pick around the entire perimeter of the back cover to cut through the softened adhesive.
    • Reheat the edges if you encounter significant resistance to avoid cracking the panel.
    • Once the adhesive is fully separated, carefully lift the back cover away and set it aside.
  4. 4

    Remove the Wireless Charging Coil

    • Locate the wireless charging coil and NFC antenna assembly covering the central motherboard area.
    • Unscrew the Phillips screws securing the plastic bracket in place.
    • Gently lift the coil assembly and disconnect its flex cable from the main board using a plastic spudger.
  5. 5

    Disconnect the Batteries

    • Safety is paramount when working inside the device, so you must disconnect the power sources immediately.
    • Use a plastic spudger to pry up the battery connectors for both the primary and secondary cells.
    • This eliminates the risk of causing a short circuit while you handle the internal components.
  6. 6

    Remove the Lower Speaker Assembly

    • The charging port is located at the bottom of the phone, partially covered by the lower speaker module.
    • Remove the retaining screws holding the speaker assembly to the frame.
    • Carefully lift the speaker out with anti-static tweezers and store it in a safe place.
  7. 7

    Disconnect the Sub-Board Cables

    • Locate the charging port sub-board at the bottom of the device.
    • Use your spudger to disconnect the main interconnect flex cable and the coaxial antenna cables attached to this board.
    • Handle the coaxial cables gently to avoid bending their fragile metal connectors.
  8. 8

    Extract the Charging Port Board

    • Remove the final screws anchoring the charging port sub-board to the aluminum frame.
    • Use a spudger to gently pry the board upward, being mindful of the USB-C port slotting into the bottom frame cutout.
    • If the board feels stuck, apply a drop of isopropyl alcohol to dissolve any mild adhesive holding it down.
  9. 9

    Install the New Charging Port

    • Align the USB-C connector of your replacement sub-board with the cutout at the bottom of the frame.
    • Press the board gently into place and secure it with the appropriate Phillips screws.
    • Reconnect the main interconnect flex cable and snap the coaxial antenna cables back onto their sockets.
  10. 10

    Reassemble the Device

    • Reinstall the lower speaker assembly and secure it with its screws.
    • Reconnect both battery flex cables to the motherboard, then reinstall the wireless charging coil and its retaining bracket.
    • Finally, clean the frame edges with isopropyl alcohol, apply new pre-cut adhesive, and press the back cover firmly into place to seal the phone.

FAQ

Will this repair fix the moisture detected warning?

Yes. If the warning persists after thoroughly cleaning and drying your original port, replacing the charging sub-board usually resolves the false moisture detection issue.

Do I need to micro-solder the new port?

Not if you purchase the complete charging port sub-board assembly. Micro-soldering is only required if you buy the bare USB-C connector component.

Is my phone still waterproof after this repair?

Opening the device compromises the factory water resistance seal. You must use high-quality replacement adhesive during reassembly, but you should still keep the phone away from water.

Why is my phone not fast charging after the replacement?

Double-check the seating of the main interconnect flex cable. A loose connection between the sub-board and the main motherboard can limit charging speeds or prevent data transfer.
