Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Charging Port Replacement

Moderate45–60 min12 steps

A malfunctioning USB-C port on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 typically leads to intermittent power delivery, poor cable retention, failed data sync, or persistent false moisture warnings. Replacing the lower modular daughterboard resolves these hardware faults and restores high-speed charging. Because this repair requires softening factory adhesive on a folding device, careful temperature control and gentle handling around internal ribbon cables are essential to protect delicate display and hinge assemblies.

Required Tools

  • Heat gun or digital heating pad (set to 75-80°C)
  • Heavy-duty suction handle
  • Thin plastic opening picks (0.15-0.2 mm)
  • Phillips #00 precision screwdriver
  • Nylon spudger
  • ESD-safe angled tweezers
  • Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and lint-free wipes
  • Genuine replacement Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 USB-C sub-board assembly
  • Pre-cut rear glass adhesive kit and port dust gasket

Step by step

  1. 1

Step 1: Discharge and Power Down

Drain the battery below 20% to reduce the risk of thermal runaway in the event of an accidental battery puncture, then power the device off completely.

Keep the phone folded closed and rest it on an anti-static work mat.

  2. 2

Step 2: Soften the Rear Glass Adhesive

Warm the perimeter of the back glass panel with a heat pad or heat gun set between 75°C and 80°C for approximately two minutes.

Keep the heat moving constantly to avoid hot spots near the battery and camera lenses.

  3. 3

Step 3: Slice the Perimeter Seal

Place a suction handle near the bottom edge of the back panel and apply firm upward tension to create a hairline gap.

Insert a thin plastic pick no deeper than 3 mm into the seam, gently sliding it around the edges to cut through the adhesive without damaging internal components.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Disconnect the Battery

Remove the Phillips #00 screws securing the lower wireless charging coil and midframe shield.

Lift away the bracket and use a nylon spudger to disconnect the primary battery press connector immediately, removing power from the logic boards.

  5. 5

Step 5: Remove the Loudspeaker Enclosure

Extract the Phillips #00 screws holding the lower speaker module in place above the charging assembly.

Pry the speaker module straight up with a spudger and set it aside, taking care not to tear the integrated acoustic mesh or perimeter gaskets.

  6. 6

    Step 6: Disconnect Sub-Board Cables

Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to disconnect the main interconnect flex cables linking the daughterboard to the primary motherboard.

Unclip the coaxial antenna lines carefully with ESD-safe tweezers, freeing them from their chassis routing channels.

  7. 7

Step 7: Extract the Damaged Sub-Board

Remove the remaining Phillips mounting screw that fastens the USB-C daughterboard to the frame.

Gently lift the board upward from its inner edge, easing the USB-C socket collar out of the bottom chassis port opening.

  8. 8

Step 8: Seat the New Charging Port Assembly

Inspect the frame opening for lint or deformed rubber seals, replacing the port gasket if worn.

Slide the new daughterboard into position at an angle, seating the Type-C port securely into the lower bezel, and secure it with the Phillips screw.

  9. 9

Step 9: Reconnect Antennas and Speaker Module

Press the display interconnect flex connectors and antenna leads straight down until they click into their sockets without bending the pins.

Reinstall the loudspeaker enclosure and tighten all retaining screws to their original torque.

  10. 10

    Step 10: Test Core Functionality

Reconnect the battery terminal and plug in an approved fast charger to verify power delivery before applying adhesive.

Check that the cover microphone picks up audio and the lower loudspeaker produces clear sound, then unplug the charger and power down the device.

  11. 11

Step 11: Clean Surfaces and Lay New Adhesive

Clean all old adhesive residue from the midframe rim and rear glass with isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes.

Peel the backing from the custom pre-cut adhesive gasket and align it precisely along the frame perimeter.

  12. 12

Step 12: Reseal the Rear Glass

Position the rear glass evenly over the chassis and press it firmly into the new adhesive.

Apply even perimeter pressure with repair clamps or a light book weight for 15-20 minutes to achieve an optimal dust-resistant bond.

Frequently asked questions

No, user storage is located on the main logic board, while the daughterboard handles power input, the primary microphone, and lower antenna connections. However, running a cloud or PC backup before undertaking hardware disassembly is always best practice.

While surface-mount port connectors can technically be replaced using micro-soldering, the process requires high heat near delicate multi-layer traces and micro-electromechanical microphones. Swapping the entire sub-board assembly is significantly safer and ensures factory reliability.

Opening the phone compromises the original factory seal. Installing a high-grade pre-cut adhesive kit restores everyday dust and splash resistance, but you should not submerge the device or expose it directly to liquids after service.

Inspect the charging cable and port socket under bright magnification to ensure no conductive debris or residual isopropyl alcohol remains. If the hardware is clean and dry, restart the device or clear the system cache partition to reset the software safety alert.
