Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Screen Replacement

Difficult2–3 h12 steps

A screen replacement is necessary when the Galaxy Z Fold8 exhibits black bleed patches, lines across the flexible panel, or dead touch zones around the folding hinge crease. Because the ultra-thin folding display is bonded to the mechanical hinge structure at the factory, a professional repair involves transferring all internal components into a new OEM screen and chassis service pack. Technicians should prepare for a complex procedure that requires careful screw sorting, delicate ribbon handling, and strict battery safety protocols.

Required Tools

  • Heat gun or digital heating pad
  • Phillips #00 precision screwdriver
  • Torx T3 screwdriver
  • Anti-static nylon spudgers
  • Plastic opening picks and pry cards
  • Suction handle
  • Fine ESD-safe tweezers
  • High-purity isopropyl alcohol (99%)
  • Pre-cut battery and back glass adhesive gaskets

Step by step

  1. 1

Step 1: Power Down and Discharge

Turn off the device completely and discharge the battery cells below 25 percent to prevent thermal runaway hazards during the repair.

Use an ejection pin to remove the physical SIM card tray from the outer housing.

  2. 2

Step 2: Soften and Remove Rear Panels

Heat the outer perimeter of the back glass and cover screen to 75 degrees Celsius using a heating pad or heat gun.

Mount a suction cup to the glass, lift gently to create a small gap, and use plastic picks to slice through the factory waterproof adhesive.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Remove Midframe Brackets

Unscrew the Phillips #00 retaining screws that secure the upper motherboard bracket and the lower loudspeaker assembly.

Carefully peel back the wireless charging coil and the integrated graphite thermal sheet.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Disconnect Power Immediately

Using a non-conductive nylon spudger, disconnect both battery connectors from the main logic board before touching any other components.

Never pry battery terminals with metal tools to avoid damaging the power delivery circuits.

  5. 5

Step 5: Detach Flex and Antenna Lines

Disconnect the cover display connector, primary digitizer ribbons, hinge interconnect lines, and RF coaxial cables from the motherboard.

Note the path of each miniature cable within the metal frame channels for accurate reinstallation.

  6. 6

Step 6: Remove the Mainboard and Cameras

Take out the Torx and Phillips screws securing the primary motherboard.

Gently unseat the board along with the rear triple-camera module, placing the unit into an anti-static tray to keep dust off the optical sensors.

  7. 7

Step 7: Extract the Daughterboard and Peripherals

Unscrew the secondary daughterboard and release the USB-C charging port assembly from the bottom frame.

Carefully pry up the haptic vibration motor and earpiece speaker, softening stubborn factory glue with a drop of 99% isopropyl alcohol if needed.

  8. 8

Step 8: Remove Both Battery Cells

Apply a small quantity of 99% isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the primary and secondary battery compartments.

Insert a wide plastic pry card underneath each pouch to separate the adhesive, taking extreme care not to bend, crease, or puncture the cells.

  9. 9

Step 9: Prep the Replacement Display Frame

Unbox the new factory-assembled screen and chassis module, checking that the hinge operates smoothly without mechanical grit.

Remove any protective plastic liners covering the pre-installed thermal pads and copper grounding sheets.

  10. 10

Step 10: Reinstall Modular Components and Batteries

Seat the vibration motor, speaker modules, daughterboard, and cameras into their matching locations within the new chassis.

Install fresh adhesive strips into the battery bays, firmly place both battery cells down, but leave the power connectors unplugged.

  11. 11

Step 11: Secure the Mainboard and Connectors

Seat the main logic board, secure it with its mounting screws, and reconnect all display, hinge, and antenna cables.

Reconnect both battery leads to the motherboard, reinstall the wireless charging coil, and fasten the midframe shield screws.

  12. 12

Step 12: Perform Bench Testing and Final Sealing

Power on the handset while open to verify touch responsiveness across the hinge, folding sensors, and outer cover display.

Once functionality passes testing, clean off any remaining glue residue, apply pre-cut adhesive gaskets, and clamp the rear glass shut under uniform pressure.

Frequently asked questions

No. Because the folding AMOLED panel and ultra-thin glass are permanently bonded to the mechanical hinge frame, attempting to peel off only the display film will tear the delicate digitizer layer. Samsung provides replacement inner screens as a complete pre-assembled chassis unit.

Do not reinstall a compromised battery cell. Bending or puncturing lithium-ion pouches can trigger internal short circuits and thermal runaway, so any deformed cell must be replaced with a fresh OEM unit.

While using pre-cut factory adhesive gaskets and proper clamping pressure restores splash resistance, hand-assembled repairs cannot fully guarantee laboratory-grade IP48 ratings. Avoid submerging the device in water after service.

Modern foldable motherboards carry standby voltage even when powered off. Disconnecting display ribbons while current is present can short the backlighting circuitry or blow surface-mount micro-fuses on the logic board.
