Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Screen Replacement

Difficult2–3 h12 steps

Screen replacement on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is required when the folding Dynamic AMOLED panel suffers from black bleeding spots, cracked ultra-thin glass, or dead touch zones across the hinge crease. Due to the complex mechanical hinge and delicate foldable layers, professional repair involves transferring the internal motherboard, sub-boards, and dual batteries into a factory-assembled display and chassis module. Expect an intricate process that demands meticulous screw organization, ESD precautions, and careful thermal management.

Required Tools

  • Heat gun or heating pad
  • Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #00 and Torx T3)
  • Non-conductive nylon spudgers
  • Fine ESD-safe tweezers
  • Plastic opening picks and suction handle
  • 99% isopropyl alcohol (for battery adhesive removal)
  • Battery pry card
  • Pre-cut rear glass adhesive gaskets

Step by step

  1. 1

Step 1: Power Down and Discharge Device

Turn off the device completely and ensure the dual battery cells are discharged below 25 percent to minimize thermal runaway risks during handling.

Eject the physical SIM tray using an ejection tool.

  2. 2

Step 2: Soften and Remove Rear Glass Panels

Heat the exterior back cover and outer display perimeter to approximately 75 to 80 degrees Celsius using a heating pad or heat gun.

Insert a thin plastic pick into the seam, carefully slicing through the waterproof adhesive perimeter, and lift off the rear panels.

  3. 3

Step 3: Remove Midframe Shields and Disconnect Power

Unscrew the Phillips #00 screws securing the upper motherboard cover and the lower loudspeaker housing.

Peel back the integrated wireless charging and graphite thermal pad, then immediately disconnect both battery connectors from the logic board using a nylon spudger.

  4. 4

Step 4: Disconnect Display and Interconnect Cables

Unplug the front cover display cable, hinge ribbon connectors, digitizer flex lines, and RF antenna coaxial cables.

Keep track of each connector's routing path to ensure exact re-routing later.

  5. 5

Step 5: Extract the Primary Motherboard

Remove the remaining screws holding the mainboard to the chassis.

Carefully lift the motherboard upward out of the housing, taking care not to smudge or scratch the rear camera sensor lenses.

  6. 6

Step 6: Remove the Daughterboard and Speaker Module

Unscrew the lower bracket securing the USB-C daughterboard, then detach the haptic feedback motor and lower microphone assembly.

Lift out the charging port board gently without flexing the copper substrate.

  7. 7

Step 7: Dissolve Adhesive and Extract Dual Batteries

Apply a few drops of 99 percent isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery compartments on both chassis halves.

Let the solvent penetrate the adhesive for two minutes, then use a flat plastic battery card to pry both battery cells out without bending or puncturing them.

  8. 8

Step 8: Transfer Small Peripherals to the New Display Assembly

Inspect the new display assembly to confirm which components are pre-installed.

Transfer any missing parts, such as the earpiece speaker, ambient light sensor gaskets, and vibration module, into their corresponding slots in the new frame.

  9. 9

Step 9: Install Motherboards and Route Internal Cables

Seat the daughterboard and main motherboard into the new display chassis, securing them with their factory screws.

Reconnect all display flex lines, hinge interconnect ribbons, and antenna cables, pressing down firmly until each connector clicks into place.

  10. 10

Step 10: Reseat Batteries and Close Midframe

Apply fresh double-sided adhesive strips into the battery wells and seat the two battery packs firmly.

Connect both battery cables to the logic board, reattach the wireless charging coil, and secure all protective midframe shields with screws.

  11. 11

Step 11: Bench Test Display and Functions

Power on the phone before final adhesive application to verify the inner folding display, touch digitizer, hinge clearance, and audio output.

Once verified, power the unit down to proceed with sealing.

  12. 12

Step 12: Apply Adhesive and Seal Rear Panels

Clean all old adhesive residue from the rear panels using isopropyl alcohol.

Place new pre-cut adhesive gaskets onto the chassis, align the outer covers, and apply uniform pressure around the perimeter for two minutes to ensure a firm bond.

Frequently asked questions

You should always replace the inner screen as a complete module that includes the pre-installed frame and hinge. Peeling the ultra-thin flexible glass away from the bare hinge outside of a cleanroom will destroy the OLED panel and ruin hinge alignment.

The screen replacement process is strictly hardware-based and will not erase data stored on the motherboard. However, creating a complete backup beforehand is strongly advised in case of accidental hardware damage during repair.

While fresh pre-cut adhesive gaskets will protect against light splashes and dust, the factory-certified IP rating cannot be fully guaranteed after the device has been opened.

This issue usually occurs if an internal ribbon cable or hinge grounding clip was misrouted into the hinge cavity. Reopen the midframe and ensure all cables lie completely flat within their designated chassis channels.
